Lesson 3: Empowerment
Empowerment is delegation on rocket fuel. It’s where people, usually in teams, are trusted to make decisions themselves, without constant checking or approval from superiors.
But here’s the challenge: Empowerment means less control, which is good, but too little control can lead to chaos. How do you strike the right balance? How do you prevent your team from going off in different directions and making big mistakes?
It’s tricky because empowerment means accepting that mistakes will happen. If people are scared of messing up, they won’t take risks. And as a leader, if you want empowerment to work, you have to show them it’s okay to make mistakes and learn from them.
